Trip to Charlotte NC

Greg and I celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary last month in Charlotte, NC. We had requested time off from work but could not decide on a destination. At the beginning of our vacation Greg drove to Birmingham and then over to Tuscaloosa for the A Day Game and my sister and I went to Starkville to see the family. Greg and I finally decided to drive over to Charlotte, NC. The drive over was interesting given that I 40 was closed secondary to a rockslide last fall (of course it opened just a few days after we got home).
We stayed a few miles from downtown Charlotte. I will say that next time we will definitely stay downtown...just so much activity. The first night we were there we went to dinner at Soul Gastrolounge. It was a neat tapas bar with a good atmosphere. The next day was our anniversary. We ate lunch at Dish. The fried green tomatoes were great! Greg found this restaurant on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. It was fun and the weather was so nice we were able to dine on the patio. After lunch we walked around and shopped a little too. We dined at Fig Tree Restaurant for our anniversary dinner celebration. Another great meal with fabulous service. On our last day we took the train to downtown Charlotte. We walked around and enjoyed the views of a new city. Nix Burgers & Brews was our choice for lunch. Greg and I checked out various scenes and walked around some of the different areas. We had a glass of wine at Bentley's on 27th which was on the 27th floor of a building...spectacular views. Charlotte hosts Alive After 5 every Thursday night during the spring and summer. It was a lot of fun. Hot Sauce, a cover band, was playing and it was a great people watching opportunity. We shut the night down with dinner on the deck of Ri Ra Irish Pub. Charlotte was a fun city to visit and I would recommend that you check it out. We are back at home and back at work...next stop will be in June to see the Dave Matthews Band.
